Source water for Stamford:
Our water system serves 1,280 people through 500-service connection. Our water source is drawn from two sources. The first (main) is surface water drawn from the Taylor Reservoir, located north of the village off State Route 10. The second (auxiliary) is ground water drawn from an 18 foot deep dug well, also located east of the Village off State Route 10. Prior to distribution the water from the reservoir is filtered, with the aid of a coagulant, through two sand filters. Then water from both sources has the following added: chlorine to protect against microbial contaminants, fluoride to aid in reducing cavities ,and sodium hydroxide to protect piping from corrosion as well as to protect you from lead and copper contaminants. In addition we implemented Carus, a poly/orthophosphate, which will further protect the system from corrosion and Lead and Copper.

Our water source is made up of 5 wells located throughout the water district. At each of the well locations the water is treated with chlorine for disinfection purposes, it is then pumped directly into the distribution system. The unused water is stored in a 200,000 gallon storage tank located at Washington Court treatment facility. Our system serves 1006 people through 305 service connections. The total water produced in 2011 was 34 million gallons with an average monthly use of 2.5 million gallons. The daily average of water treated and pumped into the distribution system was 99,000 gallons a day.

Our water sources consist of three surface sources – Cargill, Mt. Beacon, and Melzingah reservoirs, and three ground water sources - City of Beacon wells 1 &2 and Village of Fishkill well 8. During 2020, our system did not experience restrictions for a drought. The water from these sources are blended in various ratios depending on source condition and demand for water. The blended water is then treated at the water filtration plant which is located at 470 Liberty Street, Beacon NY. The current capacity of the plant is 4 Million gallons per day. Our average flow for 2020 was 2.255 million gallons a day. Our maximum withdrawal from 2020 was 2.886 million gallons per day. Chemicals are added to the blended water to facilitate filtration. The water is then filtered and chemicals are added for disinfection and corrosion control. The water is then pumped to the distribution entry point tank. The following chemicals, including purpose and amounts, were used to treat our water in 2020: Alum –coagulant for filtration (94,928 lbs); Polymer – coagulant aid (270 lbs); Zinc Orthophosphate –corrosion control (9,349 lbs); Chlorine – disinfection (11,465 lbs).

Greetings Residents,

During the past 3 years we have taken strong measures to ensure the quality and availability of Town of Wappinger water throughout the Town. Unfortunately, many areas of the Town are still without access to Town Water. We are continuing to initiate infrastructure programs to address these challenges, such as new water mains and a new storage tank. Also we are working with our neighboring communities on shared services to bring more cost effective services to underdeveloped communities especially those with under producing private wells.
