Features Update 2022/7/02 HABS Report NY HABs Report for July 18, 2022 (93 active blooms)Reporting confirmed, active cyanobacteria blooms by location within their respective watershed areas in New York State.Cyanobacteria under a microscope, submitted for NYS HABs notification by NYS DOH Jul 12, 2022 Exposure to hazardous algae blooms, (cyanobacteria) and the toxins they produce can pose health risks to people and pets. The information in this report is intended to help recreational water users enjoy summer at the lakes while avoiding any ill effects from confirmed blooms. Hazardous algae blooms/cyanobacteria can produce and release toxins in the water, even after the visible bloom has dissipated. The presence of a confirmed bloom in large lakes and rivers is in many cases contained to specific shorelines, coves or bays. The waterbodies included in this report may have clean and clear beaches and open water fully supporting recreational uses. Check on your destination site conditions before heading out, and choose your access point in an area clear of HABs. NYS reminds users of the parks and lakes that health and safety cannot be assured outside of designated swimming areas. This report does not include: Marine algal blooms, impacting coastal beaches (red tide and brown tides) filamentous green algae, which does not produce toxins Table of Contents - Click on location links for more informationNY HABs Report for July 18-24, 2022 (93 active blooms) 1 Central Watersheds (42 active) 4 Upper Hudson River Watershed (0 active) 4 Mohawk River Watershed (2 active) 4 Lower Hudson River Watershed (10 active) 5 Roaring Brook Lake (1 active) 6 Atlantic Ocean/Long Island Sound Watershed (19 active) 8 The Lake in Central Park (2 active) 9 Prospect Park Lake (1 active) 9 Martlings Pond/Richmond Lake (1 active) 9 Silver Lake Reservoir (1 active) 9 Goose Pond in Captain Tilly Park (1 active) 9 Roth Pond, on campus of Stony Brook University (0 active) 10 East Marion Lake (1 active) 10 Wainscott Pond of the Hamptons (1 active) 10 Agawam Lake, near the Hampton Bays (2 active) 10 Mill Pond (Watermill) (2 active) 11 Lake Champlain Watershed (1 active) 11 St. Lawrence River Watershed (1 active) 11 NW Watersheds (29) (draining west to Lake Erie or Lake Ontario) 11 Lake Ontario Minor Tributaries Watershed (2 active) 11 Braddock Bay, Lake Ontario (0 active) 11 Mud Bay, Lake Ontario (1 active) 12 Black River Watershed (0 active) 12 Niagara River – Lake Erie Watershed (1 active) 12 Genesee River Watershed (7 active) 12 Avon Marsh Dam Pond (0 active) 13 Oswego River – Finger Lakes Watershed (19 active) 13 Jamesville Reservoir (1 Active) 15 South/West Watersheds (20 active blooms) 15 Allegheny River Watershed (17 active) 15 Chautauqua Lake (17 active) 15 Susquehanna River Watershed (2 active) 17 Yogi and Boo Boo’s Campground Pond (1 active) 17 Bradley Brook Reservoir (0 active) 18 De Ruyter Reservoir (0 active) 18 Ramapo River Watershed (0 active) 18 New confirmed HABs are listed with the diamond bullet ◆Central Watersheds (42 active) draining a portion of interior NYS down to the Atlantic Ocean via Long Island Sound, including the water supply for New York City Upper Hudson River Watershed (0 active) drains an area in central NYS to the east of center, starting in the Adirondacks, and flowing south toward Long Island Sound; the section south of Albany is reported as Lower Hudson River Watershed Mohawk River Watershed (2 active) drains the area starting just west of the center of NYS, and gathers run-off through the south side of the Adirondacks as it flows mainly east to join the Hudson River in Albany County.
