Impacting Onondaga and Madison Counties Including the cities of Syracuse, Hamilton, and Oneida
345 PM EST Tue Nov 28 2023 LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT until 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY
  • What...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Where...Madison County
  • When...heaviest snow until 3 am EST Wednesday
  • Impacts...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
From the earlier announcement: The highest snow totals are expected over the western portion of the county, near Cazenovia and Chittenango. The highest snowfall rates, over 1 inch per hour are expected this afternoon and evening.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.


Floods and streamflow update from USGS WaterWatch
No USGS gages in flood or 99th percentile high flow state Tuesday afternoon. Normal to much above normal streamflows continue upstate and through the Hudson River central drainage basin to NYC and Long Island. Below normal flows persist in the west with a low flow reading at Canaseraga Creek above Dansville. See the FLOOD button to the right of the map for details on the high and low flows recorded on the USGS network of streamflow gages through the state.

Genesee and Allegheny River watersheds are still rated below normal as the 7-day average streamflow values compare with the historical averages. A channel of the Niagara River - Lake Erie watershed is below normal, including the north strip of Erie County and south strip of Niagara County. No other areas of drought or below normal flows appear on the drought map of NY today.

No more active HABs remain in NYS as on Monday. Highlights of the 2023 HAB season will be available in the coming weeks, watch for more information here.

Drinking Water Matters
A boil water order has been issued for customers in Delhi, Delaware County, due to a water main break. The advisory is in effect until noon Thursday.

Hazardous Spills the latest reports released from NY DEC as reported to the NY Emergency Spill Hotline 1-800-457-7362
A complaint has been filed alleging deliberate illegal dumping of an unknown amount of motor oil from a private residence on Hutchinson Blvd in Mount Vernon on Nov 24. No impact to state waters in Westchester County noted.

Discharge of unknown amount of hydraulic oil reported in a canal off Homan Avenue in Bayshore Friday.
