NY ROUND-UP
Coastal flooding at Atlantic Beach

Here is the round up of water events and impacts in the state as of Friday at 8:49 am EDT:

High flows and Flood USGS streamflow gages
  • East Rockaway Inlet is flooding at Atlantic Beach - running 4.72 ft deep - flood stage is 4.71 ft
  • Much above normal flows in the Ramapo River watershed are contributing to flood pressure across the border in New Jersey. Creek tributaries of the Lower Hudson and Delaware Rivers are flowing much above normal.

Below normal flows for this day are recorded in the Niagara River - Lake Erie watershed:
    • Tonawanda Creek is flowing low at Batavia - running 1.28 ft deep at 2.95 cfs

    Hazardous Spills
Home heating oil spills can occur during tank filling. Tank level indicators can help to alleviate this messy problem.
A 200 gallon spill of home heating oil was reported at a private residence on Main Street in Wheatley Heights, Suffolk County. That's a tough loss financially and no fun to clean up. If you are using fuel oil #2 this season, consider having a spill prevention and response plan in place. Post the number Report a Spill - 1-800-457-7362 near the tank and have bags of absorbent material such as kitty litter on hand for emergencies.
See the Spills button to the right of the map for more spills happening all over New York

HABs are confirmed north, central water and south impacting the shorelines east and west. Sites nearest the algal blooms include Farleys Point, Taughannock Point, Maplewood Point, Wyres Point, Sheldrake Point, Union Springs, Kings Ferry Station and more. See the HABs button for location details for each bloom.

New confirmed HABs reports have come in over the last twenty four hours for the following water bodies, including:
    • Lake Clear
    • Cayuga Lake
    • Arbutus Pond
    • Waneta Lake
No water bodies have been cleared from active advisory list as of 9:22 am.

    Drinking Water Advisories
