Catskill Village BWA
Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Greene County: Catskill Village has issued a BWA for customers connecting to village water supply on West Main Street between Stewarts Shops on West Bridge Street and Abeel Drive. The advisory was issued yesterday and remains in effect until further notice. Catskill Village supplies potable water for 8000 residents plus businesses from a surface water source in the Mohawk River watershed. EPA records indicate this facility has no violations of the SDWA in the current quarter, exceeding the maximum contaminant level for disinfection by-products, since resolved. A matter of non-compliance appears on the record for Monitoring of total coliform, April and May 2023, since resolved.
Oswego County: The Town of Scriba Water District announced the restoration of water service on Sunday to around 4000 residents impacted by loss of service last week. Those impacted in Scriba, Volney and New Haven are conserving water until the boil water advisory is lifted, lab results are expected today.
BWA is standard following damage to water lines, as contamination can enter at the break and during the repairs. Cold weather last week is cited as the cause for the rupture of water mains in the Town of Scriba Water District, one on City Line Rd and the other on County Route 4. Wine Creek Apartments residents will be boiling their water until at least Wednesday.
Scriba WD chlorinates and distributes potable water purchased from another facility in Oswego County to a population of 9044 in Scriba, Volney and New Haven. (Editors note of correction: earlier today we reported all customers were impacted by the service outage and BWA.) The EPA compliance record is clear, no violations or non-compliance noted as of the last verified reporting cycle. The raw water source is surface water in the Lake Ontario minor tributaries watershed, east section.
The new Serious Violator list is out, 56 drinking water facilities listed with significant violations of the SDWA as of Sep 30, 2024. The new summary report is in progress. See the stats for the prior quarter, how drinking water facility compliance compares in Ohio, New York, Georgia, Louisiana and California, here.
