NWS has issued an urgent winter weather message for counties along the south state line from Chemung to Sullivan regarding ice accumulation. Power outages may result, get prepared ahead of time for potential disruptions to drinking water service. Boil water advisories are automatically issued for water systems that lose pressure below the minimum safe level 20 psi. Consider sanitizing and filling household drinking water containers with a day or two supply as a precaution against a possible disruption of service. After any service disruption or loss of pressure, when the water service is restored, clear stagnant water from the lines by running the taps for a few minutes. Any water intended for drinking or food preparation should be boiled following any disruption of service or drop in water pressure. Watch for local water facility advisories to confirm the safety of the water supply in these circumstances.

Upstate north, the temp is well below freezing at 17 degrees, heading for a daytime high 32 with a slight chance of snow tonight. The weekend looks sunny and cold, dressed for the weather this is a good time to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Small rivers have frozen over, however stay off the ice and well back from the banks of water bodies.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Greene County: Catskill Village issued a BWA for customers connecting to village water supply on West Main Street between Stewarts Shops on West Bridge Street and Abeel Drive. The broken water line was repaired by Wednesday with a BWA in effect as a precaution. Contamination can enter the line during the break and repair process, boiling the water is necessary to ensure safety, until lab tests confirm the water is safe to drink. The advisory was expected to extend until sometime today, as it takes two consecutive daily lab tests to verify potability.

Catskill Village supplies potable water for 8000 residents plus businesses from a surface water source in the Mohawk River watershed. EPA records indicate this facility has no violations of the SDWA in the current quarter, has had an issue exceeding the maximum contaminant level for disinfection by-products, since resolved. A matter of non-compliance appears on the record for Monitoring of total coliform, April and May 2023, since resolved.
