Weather observers needed in Mattituck, Carmel

Help save lives and property - National Weather Service seeks weather observers in NYS
NWS is calling for volunteer weather observers in Mattituck and Carmel. If you have a passion for the hydrologic cycle, possibly you are already recording your weather observations, NWS is looking for you. NWS seeks reliable volunteers committed to recording local temperatures, rainfall and snowfall for many years to come:
  • Take daily temperature and precipitation readings
  • Instruments and training provided free of charge includes temperature sensor, 8” rain gauge, snow boards (not the kind for sliding down mountains)
  • Training provided on how to take measurements and submit the data on line

Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by NWS Binghamton 346 am Tues Feb 4
A low pressure system will bring a potential wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain late tomorrow (Wednesday night) into Thursday. Exact precipitation types and amounts remain uncertain at this time. This could impact the Thursday morning commute.

Another low pressure system is likely Saturday into Sunday that has the potential to bring more snow and mixed precipitation.

SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotter activation may be needed. Please relay any information about severe weather to the NWS.

Montgomery County: Amsterdam experienced a shutdown at the water plant Friday, the outage prompting a BWA for customers on Locust, from Prospect to Wallin, Shuler McKinley, Harrison, Hayes, Garfield, Taft, Roosevelt, Grand, Milton, Vanderveer, Merrill, Belmont Place, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Avenue, and Park Street.

Cayuga County: Throop put out a BWA Thursday following a water main break. Customers connecting on Donovan, Canoga Northrup, Nugent, Youngs, Webster, Griffin, McDonald Roads, and Turnpike Road from 1412 to 1916 are impacted until further notice.
