NWS Hazardous weather statement - snow squalls for CNY
Lake Champlain flooding north of Whitehall

National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook
issued 356 am Jan 4
A cold front moving through the area will bring a chance for snow squalls across CNY, beginning around sunrise and lasting into the early afternoon hours. Snow squalls cause very hazardous travel conditions, dropping visibility to near 0 with gusty winds and slippery roads. If traveling during this period, check the weather before beginning your journey.

Drinking Water Advisories
Black Brook Water District #1 has issued a BWA for Au Sable Forks users due to a water main break and loss of pressure January 2. The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Floods and streamflow update from USGS WaterWatch
Lake Champlain began flooding north of Whitehall Thursday afternoon reaching a fraction of an inch above the flood stage 99.5 ft. All rated streamflows measured by USGS and New York Water Science Center in the Lake Champlain watershed are registering above normal to much above normal as of Thursday late afternoon. Uncharacteristic for the season, no ice impact detected, all systems appear to be flowing freely.

Raquette River three USGS monitoring stations remain much above seasonal normal flow, over 95th percentile flows recorded from head near of Piercefield, South Colton and the outlet north of Raymondville. Raquette River drains an area of 1125 square miles in St Lawrence County. As of the latest update, St Lawrence River flows are above normal and much above normal applies to Oswegatchie River near Oswegatchie.

The NYS drought map cleared over the weekend, no part of the state is rated below normal or any variety of drought Thursday.
Hazardous Spills the latest reports released from NY DEC as reported to the NY Emergency Spill Hotline 1-800-457-7362
The latest incident reports available today are spills occurring Dec 31, updates in progress, more to follow.
A spill reported occuring by way of a deliberate act on Dec 29 has impacted a tributary of the Lower Hudson River. According to the NY DEC report, an uknown amount of floor stripper was deliberately discharged off Bookside Ave in Chester, reaching Black Meadow Creek in Orange County.
