Central state is bracing for a winter storm to hit the cities of Hamilton, Oneida, Rome, Utica, Cortland, Norwich, Oneonta, Binghamton, Delhi, Walton, Monticello, Hallstead, Montrose, Damascus, Equinunk, Tunkhannock, Scranton, Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, Milford, and Honesdale.

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING
Heavy snow with total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches possible in central NY including Madison, Southern Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan Counties.

Travel could be very difficult Saturday and Sunday. NWS reports some uncertainty in the exact track of the low pressure center. The Catskill and Pocono mountains have the best chance at seeing higher end amounts.


Current conditions in New York City sunny and 28 degrees F with clouds increasing throughout the day. Rain and snow likely by tomorrow afternoon, increasing to 100% chance of rain/snow Saturday night.

A spill reported occuring by way of a deliberate act on Dec 29 has impacted a tributary of the Lower Hudson River. According to the NY DEC report, an uknown amount of floor stripper was deliberately discharged off Brookside Ave in Chester, reaching Black Meadow Creek in Orange County.

Drinking Water Advisories
Black Brook Water District #1 has issued a BWA for Au Sable Forks users due to a water main break and loss of pressure January 2. The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Streamflow Situation from USGS WaterWatch
Lake Champlain is no longer above flood stage north of Whitehall as of Friday morning, USGS flow monitors put the water level at under 99 ft deep, a good six inches below flood stage. Streamflows feeding Lake Champlain range from normal to much above normal, the highest flow Friday morning being a 90th percentile measurement recorded on the Poultney River below Fairhaven CT, flowing into the south end of Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain discharges to the St Lawrence River at its north end.

All three USGS monitoring stations on the Raquette River in St Lawrence County remain much above seasonal normal flow, over 95th percentile values registering from the top end near Piercefield, at South Colton aka Three Falls and the outlet end of the system at Raymondville. Raquette River drains an area of 1125 square miles in St Lawrence County. As of Friday morning, St Lawrence River flows are normal, Oswegatchir River flow has returned to a seasonal normal flow level, only the Raquette system is higher than normal.
