Yacht club owner sentenced for illegal discharge

One of 56 Criminal Prosecutions in Ohio under the Clean Water Act (from 1989-2021)

The defendant in this case is the owner of a Lake Erie yacht club located at Cleveland in Cuyahoga County. The defendant plead guilty to the violation of the Clean Water Act Secion 33 negligent discharge of a pollutant into US waters without a permit.

In this case, a barge owned by the yacht club was found to have discharged oily bilge water into Rocky River, which has its outlet in Lake Erie.

The sentencing included restitution ordered paid to compensate the US Coast Guard for cost incurred in the response and clean up of this oil discharge of $3474.63. The federal fine sentenced is $100 and a special assessment fee of $100 levied upon the defendant.
