Ellicott Creek misses flood stage by a hair below Williamsville

Water news for Saturday, January 27, 2024 - last updated 1004 pm EST

Streamflow Situation from USGS WaterWatch
Black Creek breached flood stage at 2 pm this afternoon, running two and a half inches over flood stage as of the latest update. Ellicott Creek came within a fraction of an inch of flood stage below Williamsville around 5 pm, peaked and began to recede, last recorded at 7.86 ft. Flood stage is 8 ft.

Tioughnioga River is no longer flooding at Cortland, the flow subsided below flood stage early afternoon on a steady decline, running 7.39 ft deep at 9 pm, the last posted measurement.

Mohawk River is no longer flowing 99th percentile at Cohoes, and Hudson River has receded below 99th percentile at Green Island, currently flowing 57,000 cfs, down from 70,000 earlier this afternoon.

Be extra cautious around fast moving water, streamflows are still rising in some locations in the west.

Check the map for flow volume and depth updates throughout the day, SMS alerts have gone out for stations looking to breach flood stage or actively flooding. Black tags for flood, blue for 99th percentile flow.
