Flooding ends at Rapids
Croton River still high at New Croton Dam
Water news for Monday, January 29, 2024 - last updated 1036 pm EST
Streamflow Situation from USGS WaterWatch
Tonawanda Creek subsided back into its channel around 530 pm today, as of this update, still flowing above 99th percentile at half a foot below flood stage, declining steadily.
Croton River is still recording a 99th percentile flow at the New Croton Dam, running 5.3 ft deep. USGS has not set the flood stages for this location that we may know when the river spills over, all we can say is, the flow sensors say this is in the top 1% high flow measurements of all time for January 29 since the location has been monitored.
Current streamflows are much above normal statewide, meaning the rated stations are above 90th percentile for this day of the year in water recording history.
There are just the two extreme high or 99th percentile flows in all of NYS tonight, no more active flooding and no extreme lows.
Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
No part of NYS appears on the drought map Monday, no below normal ratings nor any degree of drought.
