Impacting Putnam-Rockland-Northern Westchester-Southern Westchester-New York (Manhattan)-Bronx-Richmond (Staten Island)-Kings (Brooklyn)-Northwest Suffolk-Northeast Suffolk-Southwest Suffolk-Southeast Suffolk-Northern Queens-Northern Nassau-Southern Queens-Southern Nassau Counties

FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts is expected.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Streamflow Situation from USGS current streamflow monitors
Much above normal streamflows midafternoon in the northeast, central and south drainage basins ahead of the Flood Watch. West interior flows are mostly normal with an area much below normal in the northwest covering Niagara-Lake Erie north section, the Lower Genesee River and Lake Ontario minor tributaries.
Black River continues to run above 90th percentile toward Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain tributaries Ausable and Saranac run over 90th percentile, Upper Hudson River stations remain above 90th percentile including Waterford.

No extremes either high, 99th percentile or low 1st percentile flows are registering in the NY streamflow network as of this report, Flood Watch is ongoing since 1 pm.

Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
New area on the NYS drought map midweek is the Raquette River channel through St Lawrence watershed, rated below normal.

Niagara River - Lake Erie watershed area remains below normal along the Niagara-Erie County line, along with the adjacent watersheds of the Lake Ontario minor tributaries west section and Lower Genesee River watershed.

Drinking Water Matters
Plattsburgh has issued a boil water advisory following an emergency water line repair on Monday, a boil water order has been issued for customers connecting at 22 to 38 Smith St until further notice.

Hazardous Spills Report a spill 1-800-457-7362
NY DEC Emergency spill hotline takes reports of hazardous materials spills from anyone with knowledge of a spill. Professional responders are dispatched to contain spills and remove hazardous materials. Note that a spill of one gallon of home heating oil inside a residence is considered a large spill requiring professional response and cleanup. Ventilate the building and clear the area if a spill of fuel oil #2 occurs inside your home, and call the emergency spill line.
