Flood Tracker provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors
Forty-four streamflow gauges record flooding in the USA Monday afternoon, down from forty-seven this morning. WT tracks the nation's most common natural disaster dynamics through New York, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana. As of this report we are watching 8 monitors indicating active flooding; 1 in Georgia, 2 in Louisiana and 4 in Ohio.
New York State: Hudson River is back to flooding at Poughkeepsie after the noon hour. Swan River monitor continues to signal above 99th percentile at East Patchogue on Long Island and Cazenovia Creek is sending the high flow signal from Ebenezer in the Niagara - Lake Erie watershed. The NWS Coastal Hazard statement indicates half a foot inundation is possible this evening for Manhattan and Long Island low-lying and vulnerable coastline, more to follow.
Current streamflow map for Ohio is down to four sites indicating provisional flows above flood stage. Ohio River is no longer flooding, Wills Creek, St. Josephs and Scioto Rivers are no longer flooding. Scioto River tributaries Alum Creek and Olentangy River continue to run high in the upper basin. Flooding has ended at Killbuck, Killbuck Creek has snuck back into its channel just ahead of the noon hour. Muskingum River is flooding near Coshocton, Stillwater Creek is flooding at Uhrichsville. Tiffin River is still inches over flood stage at Stryker, and this overflow looks to be ending today.
In Louisiana Region 1 northwest, Bayou Bodcau continues to relax, just three feet over flood stage near Shreveport. Over to the east state line, watershed Region 7, Pearl River is no longer flooding near Bogalusa, still overflowing downstream in St Tammany Parish at Town of Pearl River.
Georgia, Day 33: Satilla River is still recording a foot over flood stage at Atkinson.
See black tags on the map for active flood, blue for high flow, 99th percentile or more.
As many NYS drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WTNY.us tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's 17 watersheds. Check the watershed layer on the map to see the direction of flow and streamflows that may be impacting drinking water today.

Hazardous Spills Report a spill 1-800-457-7362
Spill incidents available in the public record today include 18 reports of petroleum products spilled, a dozen of these from transformers blowing in stormy weather. One spill reported as a deliberate act in Monticello, the amount and substance deliberately spilled in a front yard of a residence is reported unknown.
NY DEC Emergency spill hotline takes reports of hazardous materials spills from anyone with knowledge of a spill. Professional responders are dispatched to contain spills and remove hazardous materials. Note that a spill of one gallon of home heating oil inside a residence is considered a large spill requiring professional response and cleanup. Ventilate the building and clear the area if a spill of fuel oil #2 occurs inside your home, and call the emergency spill line.
