Chautauqua County has issued BWAs for Pomfret and Fredonia effective April 17 following planned maintenance of the water treatment tanks and facilities.

Flood Tracker provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors
Sixty-six streamflow gauges record flooding in the USA Thursday, up from thirty-one yesterday. WT tracks the nation's most common natural disaster dynamics through New York, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana. As of this report we are watching 22 monitors indicating active flooding: 9 in Georgia and 13 in Louisiana.

As of this report, New York has no active flooding, one monitor is recording 99th percentile flow on Long Island, Swan River is still recording high flow at East Patchogue. Otsquago Creek is high at Fort Plain in the Mohawk River watershed. The forecast is 70% chance of rain showers statewide today with possibility of more showers tomorrow and through the weekend.

Ohio is assessing the damage and picking up the pieces after severe storms and tornado damage sustained last night. No loss of life reported, the damage assessed by radar shows tornado debris signature across multiple counties. Heavy damage sustained in Richland, Portage and Trumbull Counties including downtown Bucyrus and the village of Windham with power outages impacting an estimated 6000 people. Two monitors in the central Scioto River basin record 99th percentile flows again Thursday morning, the Olentangy River is sending high flow values from near Delaware and Worthington in the Upper Scioto River basin.


Georgia begins Day 43 of continuous flooding, dropping five flood sites overnight. As of 1015 pm last night, Ochlockonee River quieted down into the channel near Concord, FL ending all monitored flooding int the 1000 square mile drainage area. To the east, the Suwannee River watershed is still recording flooding in five locations Thursday. Wihlachoochee River is still flooding near Quitman and Pinetta, FL. Suwannee River tributary, Alapaha River is running less than a foot over flood stage at Statenville, close to three feet over flood stage at Jennings, FL. Suwannee River itself continues to spill over, less than an inch above flood stage now at US 441 near Fargo. In the Atlantic basin, Altamaha River is nine inches over flood stage near Baxley, no longer incited by tributary Ohoopee River, flooding ended overnight near Reidsville. Satilla River upper basin flooding has ceased over the last twenty-four hours, flooding of GA158 near Waycross ended yesterday after lunch. This station peaked the evening of April 13th at moderate flood level, almost four and a half feet out of the normal channel. Within an hour from the end of flooding at GA158 yesterday, Satilla River flooding ended downstream near Waycross as well. Satilla River watershed is down to two stations recording flooding Thursday. Tributary Little Satilla runs seven inches over near Offerman, while the glut of flood flow volume gathered from almost 3000 square miles of surface area is currently moving through the lower Satilla channel this morning at Atkinson, running almost four feet over flood stage as of this report. Savannah River collects surface runoff from nearly 10 thousand square miles by the time it reaches Cylo. The USGS provisional flow data for this station shows Savannah is still swollen out of the normal channel by eight to nine inches at 15300 cubic feet per second.

Louisiana flooding has shifted slightly overnight, down one station Thursday. Caddo Lake is back inside its basin Thursday morning. Thirteen sites are still recording flood flows this morning. Region 1 Bayou Dorcheat continues to run more than a foot and a half outside the channels near Springhill and downstream at Minden. Bayou Bodcau is almost ten feet out of the basin near Shreveport, the highest level seen this year. To the east in watershed Region 2, Little River is down two feet in the last 24 hours, currently two feet four inches over flood stage near Rochelle. In Region 4, Sabine River is more than a foot over at the top end near Logansport, more than three feet over downstream at Burkeville, more than four feet over downstream near Bon Wier and a foot and a half over the channel near Ruliff, TX in the lower end of the channel that forms the state border with Texas. Calcasieu River records a flood flow a foot and a half over the channel at the top end near Glenmora, two and a half feet out of the channel downstream near Oberlin. By the time Calcasieu reaches the sensors near Kinder, the flow from 1700 square miles is concentrated into a channel 16 ft deep. As of this report, the flood water runs around eight inches over. Flooding of Calcasieu River is likely to end first near Kinder. In Region 7, the east state border Pearl River continues to flood more than two feet over near Bogalusa, one foot over flood stage downstream at Town of Pearl River.

As many NYS drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present.
