Hazardous material spill in Susquehanna Watershed

The latest spill reports from NYDEC occurred on Friday, May 31. 17 spills were reported on this day.
Black River Watershed: An unreported volume of raw sewage was released into East Branch Mohawk River off NY26 and NY294 from a pipe discharge in West Leydon, in Lewis County .
Atlantic Long Island Sound Watershed: An unknown amount of raw sewage was discharged at Seaview Marina off Central Walk and is impacting Great South Bay in Seaview, Suffolk County. Reported on Friday, an unspecified amount of pool chemicals and waste oil has been spilled off Lynwood Ave at a private residence in Farmingdale, Suffolk County.
Susquehanna Watershed: 500 gallons of home heating oil has been spilled at the Otesaga Resort Hotel which resulted from equipment failure on Lake St in Copperstown, Otsego County

DEC receives upward of sixteen thousand spill reports each year; each report is investigated by qualified personnel. Report files are closed when it is determined the spill is contained and under the control of the spiller or state authorities and a clean up plan is in place or completed.
