HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM EDT SUNDAY...Heat index values of 95 to 100 in Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York (Manhattan), Northern Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), and Southern Queens Counties. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
New York City residents should call 3 1 1 to identify cooling center locations and obtain `Beat the Heat` safety tips. A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has
air conditioning. If you don`t have home air conditioning, continue to seek out cool spaces each day as long as it remains hot, and for a few days after if your home is still hot. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.

Drinking Water Advisories
Chenango: Norwich City has issued a BWA following an equipment failure incident on Wednesday. Equipment failure led to low chlorine levels in the water, necessitating the boil order for 8000 customers. Norwich City provides drinking water from a surface water source. From the 2021 Annual Water Quality Report, "two active sources located in Colchester and Montville. We also have two backup water supplies in Norwich. Last, we have a groundwater well and an interconnection with another major water supplier in southeastern Connecticut, both of which serve as reserve supply in the case of an emergency. Combined, our treatment facilities provide roughly 1.75 billion gallons of clean drinking water every year, or approximately
4.8 million gallons a day. Our storage tanks hold a combined 7.9 million gallons of treated water delivered to your home or business through a 190-mile network of water mains." Norwich City runs a clean operation with no EPA violations.
From The Sensors provisional data on river flooding from the network of USGS streamflow monitors
Thirty-seven streamflow gauges indicate flooding in the USA today, up from twenty-six Thursday. WT tracks the flow levels on four reference flood events, as the sensors read and record it, all occurring in the state of Louisiana.
Louisiana: Region 7 Amite River continues to run above flood stage at Hwy 22 near Maurepas. Ongoing since June 4, Region 1 watershed's Bayou Bodcau Lake is down six inches overnight near Shreveport, currently recorded a foot and a half over the basin. In Region 4, west boundary river Sabine water level has come down a few more inches overnight, currently running ten inches over near Logansport. Downstream near Ruliff the water level is down to nine inches above flood stage, the flow volume has dropped slightly also, supporting the receding flow trend. As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. Check the watershed layer on the map to see the direction of flow and streamflows that may be impacting drinking water today.
