Francine downgraded to Tropical Depression, flooding in Louisiana

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges
Tracking Francine: Downgraded to Tropical Depression this morning, Francine is slowing down over land, the current intensity down to 35 mph. According to the National Weather Service, the threat of flash flooding has passed and the Flood Watch has expired as of 7 am this morning. The center of the storm has moved past New Orleans, a storm surge warning remains in effect for Louisiana's north eastern Parishes including Lower Tangipahoa, Southeast St. Tammany, Southern Livingston, Southwestern St. Tammany, St. Charles, and St. John The Baptist. This warning also applies to Southern Hancock, Southern Harrison, Southern Jackson Counties in Mississippi. See Tracking Francine, one-stop event page for #Francine, here.

New York skies are clear and sunny again today, streamflows running normal to above seasonal normal statewide Thursday. An area of moderate drought persists in Lower Hudson River watershed through Putnam and Westchester Counties as the Croton River flows have been running below normal for more than a week. As of this report, there are no extreme high or low flows recorded in the network.

A new satellite image uploaded September 11 reveals Lake Champlain open water and shorelines, the bloom in St Albans Bay is the only HAB visible, matching the concentration color scale for 800 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS color image of Lake Champlain here.

Two hundred and nine HABs are confirmed active Thursday morning, down from 257 Tuesday. Black Lake is back on the HAB radar with a second round of bluegreen growth confirmed in St Lawrence County. The latest impacted water body list is available here.
