Release from Spier Falls Hydro Electric Dam impacts Hudson River

Upper Hudson Watershed: September 14th, 50 gallons of drilling mud was released due to equipment failure at a private residence on West River Rd in Fort Edward, Washington County. On this day again, unreported amounts of batteries and bearing oil released from Spier Falls Hydro Electric Dam on Spier Falls Rd in Cornith, Saratoga County. Hudson River was impacted.
Oswego River Watershed: September 14th, an unreported amount of gasoline was released from a traffic accident resulting in a car in Dykeman Creek off Ball Rd in Hastings, Oswego County.
Niagara River - Lake Erie Watershed: September 14th, 50 gallons of diesel was released onto the roadway from a vehicle on Genesee St and Transit Rd in Cheektowaga, Erie County.
Atlantic Long Island Sound Watershed: September 14th, an unreported amount of unknown material was discharged from an apartment building on Wycoff Ave in Brooklyn, Kings County.

DEC receives upward of sixteen thousand spill reports each year; each report is investigated by qualified personnel. Report files are closed when it is determined the spill is contained and under the control of the spiller or state authorities and a clean up plan is in place or completed.
