CENTRAL PRESSURE IN THE EYE OF MILTON HAS FALLEN TO A NEAR RECORD LOW...MILTON POSES AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS THREAT TO FLORIDA AND RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO FOLLOW THE ORDERS OF LOCAL OFFICIALS
At 700 PM CDT (0000 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Milton was located
near latitude 21.9 North, longitude 90.4 West. Milton is moving
toward the east near 10 mph (17 km/h). This general motion is
expected through tonight followed by a turn toward the east-
northeast and northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the forecast
track, the center of Milton is forecast to move near or just north
of the Yucatan Peninsula tonight and Tuesday, then cross the eastern
Gulf of Mexico and approach the west coast of the Florida Peninsula
on Wednesday.
Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds
remain near 180 mph (285 km/h) with higher gusts. Milton is a
potentially catastrophic category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale. While fluctuations in intensity are expected,
Milton is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous hurricane
through landfall in Florida.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80
miles (130 km).

One hundred and sixty one HABs emerge from the first weekend in October, this level of activity is higher than the peak daily activity in all of 2023 season. The top four HAB-impacted lakes in the west interior account for approximately half of the total active bluegreen blooms statewide Monday morning. Casey Park Pond is confirmed with the first HAB of the season in Ontario County. Updates are in progress, the latest impacted water body list is available here.
The latest satellite image of Lake Champlain was captured October 6, this image is mostly cloud obscured, wind speed unknown. Baie Missisquoi appears clear of HAB activity. Lake Carmi widespread HAB is in view at high concentration 700 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS color image of Lake Champlain here.
Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges
An increasing number of monitoring stations are reporting flows below 10th percentile values Monday with more surface area filling in the drought map over the weekend. Lake Ontario minor tributaries west section remains in a state of extreme drought for a second week, impacting Niagara, Orleans and west Monroe Counties. The adjacent area of Lake Ontario minor tributaries central section also below normal impacting east Monroe, Wayne and north Onondaga Counties. New to the drought map, Susquehanna River watershed is rated below normal. Parts of Mohawk and Upper Hudson Rivers are rated below normal through south Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery Counties. Lower Hudson River is back on the drought map below normal in north Orange, Putnam and Westchester Counties. As of this report, there are no extreme high or low flows recorded in the network.
