Johnstown Waterworks issues BWA for County Route 13A, Lagrange Rd and Hulbert Rd following discovery of a water leak

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Fulton County: Johnstown is under a BWA today after a water leak was detected yesterday on County Route 131A. A loss of pressure in the water line can allow microbiological contamination, the BWA is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the water until the leak can be repaired and the potability of the water is established by lab testing. This BWA applies to customers connecting on County Route 131A, Lagrange Road, and Hulbert Road until further notice. Johnstown Waterworks serves a residential population 8154 from a surface water source in the Mohawk River watershed. The system is well run with no EPA violations in the last three years. The last sanitary inspection was done in July 2022.

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges
Sunny and clear in New York City with clouds gathering overnight, possibility of showers for tomorrow. Upstate we have sunny and cool conditions with an 80% chance of showers tonight, no hazardous weather in the forecast for the next few days.

An increasing number of monitoring stations are reporting below normal flow values Saturday morning with one watershed on the south facing run through the Appalachians showing above normal water levels. Delaware River watershed has three stations posting flow values above 90th percentile, rated much above the seasonal normal.

The NYS drought map has Lake Ontario minor tributaries west section in severe hydrologic drought. Niagara, Orleans and west Monroe Counties continue to experience the drought conditions, recovering slightly from an extreme rating last week. Adjacent area to the south is rated below normal, impacting the Niagara River - Lake Erie and Allegheny River watersheds. Susquehanna and Ramapo Rivers are rated below normal in the south. Upstate north, central St. Lawrence County is rated below normal in proximity to the Oswegatchie River channel, adjacent Black River watershed is below normal, Mohawk River, Upper and Lower Hudson River watersheds all running below normal based on the 7-day average streamflows compared with the seasonal normals. Lake Champlain watershed area in moderate drought in north Washington and southeast Essex Counties. As of this report, there are no extreme high or low flows recorded in the network.

WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS) and NYS DEC

New York
One hundred and twenty-six HABs on the dashboard Saturday morning, down from 157 this time yesterday. Reports made prior to Sep 29 have been transferred to the archives, the total reports confirmed for the season is at 1839. Updates are in progress, our latest impacted water body list is available here.

The latest satellite image of Lake Champlain was captured Oct 11, a clear image of the islands, shorelines and open water. As we saw in the last clear image Oct 8, no HAB activity is observed in Lake Champlain. Vermont's Lake Carmi retains a widespread HAB at a slightly lower concentration, dropping down from 700 thousand cells per ml to 600 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS color image of Lake Champlain here.
