Moderate to extreme drought statewide
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in NYS
New York's streamflow dashboard is a dire vision of drought, most stations reporting much below seasonal normal to low all over the 17 watersheds of the central basin, northeast, northwest and south flowing watersheds.
Extreme drought continues to stress the Upper Lake Champlain watershed in the northeast drainage basin, north Washington, southeast Essex Counties. Adjacent area in the Upper Hudson River watershed of the central drainage basin is in severe drought, south Washington County, north Rensselaer, Saratoga, south Hamilton Counties. Lower Hudson River has an area of severe drought through Ulster and Orange Counties, the rest is moderate drought. In the south drainage basin, severe drought has taken hold of much of the Susquehanna River watershed and the Upper Delaware River. Chemung River watershed is rated moderate drought. In the northwest drainage basin, severe drought has taken over Niagara River -Lake Erie watershed west section, Niagara-Orleans-west Monroe Counties. Right back around to the northeast, severe drought grips the St. Lawrence River watershed at the Raquette River channel through central St. Lawrence County.
For those watersheds of east NYS not experiencing the severe drought, these areas are rated moderate drought, including St Lawrence, Black River, Lower Hudson, Mohawk River watershed. The counties of Putnam and Westchester are the only areas unrated in the central basin. In the west, the majority of area is rated below normal with the Finger Lakes watershed unrated.
