Showers Sunday with more rain coming tomorrow

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in NYS
Current conditions upstate at Massena, light rain and mist, 37 degrees. Upstate west, Binghamton reporting overcast and 39 degrees with 40% chance of showers, less than a tenth of an inch total new precipitation expected Sunday turning to rain Monday. Mostly sunny in the city, high 53 degrees, rain expected Monday may bring up to half an inch new precipitation, taking the edge off the drought.

Streamflows run mostly below seasonal normal, the lowest water levels are found in the south and central drainage basins. Extreme drought has taken hold in Lake Ontario minor tributaries east, impacting south Jefferson and north Oswego Counties. Upper Lake Champlain watershed remains in severe drought with Lower Hudson remaining in moderate drought. Dutchess and east Orange Counties are getting a break, rated below normal. In the west, Lake Ontario minor tributaries watershed is in moderate drought, Chemung River watershed also in moderate drought. Upper Genesee River watershed is rated below normal. Susquehanna, Delaware and Ramapo Rivers watersheds are below normal. As of this report there are no high flows, and no 1st percentile extreme lows recorded.

Light wintry precipitation is expected on Monday and Monday evening with a widespread, heavier rain and snow event expected by the middle of this upcoming week.

A cold rain will move into the area on Monday, with a chance for localized pockets of freezing rain or sleet over the higher elevations and sheltered valley locations. Any icing looks to be light and short lived based on the current data. Be sure to monitor the latest forecast for any updates or changes.
