Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitors in NY
Chilly in the city this morning, fair and 16 degrees, high expected around 30 in the sunshine. Snow showers overnight and tomorrow, starting after 4 am.
Streamflows have settled back down to seasonal normal in most watersheds with isolated locations measuring record highs. Platter Kill in the Mohawk River watershed is running the highest water level for any Dec 23 at Gilboa in 48 years. Upstate in Lake Champlain watershed, we see a record high water level in the Salmon River at South Plattsburgh, the highest Dec 23 measurement in 37 years. Lower Hudson River watershed is still experiencing below normal flows, this could be related to lower controlled releases from the Croton Dam as the supply is replenished in the reservoir after a lengthy drought season. Long Island also has below normal flow values. New York's drought map is unchanged since last week, Lake Ontario minor tributaries west section runs below normal from Niagara to central Monroe County and Lower Hudson River has an area of moderate drought in Putnam and north Westchester Counties.
