Christmas Day Report
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitors in NY
Overcast, 33 degrees in the city, high 37 with decreasing clouds. No rain or snow expected. Binghamton weather office reporting overcast conditions, 25 degrees on the way to a cloudy Christmas Day, high 30. Massena International - Richards Field airport 17 degrees, looking at a high of 20 today. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the west interior to see a storm this weekend, see details below.
Lake Champlain watershed continues to record much above seasonal normal streamflows midweek, the balance of water bodies run seasonal normal. Flows downstream of the Croton dam and reservoir remain much below seasonal normal as the volume in the reservoir is built up for next hot season. Long Island is mostly normal with three below normal ratings and one station reporting below the 10th percentile. The drought map has released Lake Ontario minor tributaries west section, no longer rated below normal. Lower Hudson River watershed continues to show up a moderate drought rating in Putnam and north Westchester Counties, downstream of the Croton dam and reservoir as the controlled releases have been lower than normal for the season.

A storm system will bring milder air to the region with rain likely Sunday into Monday of next week. The potential exists for heavy rainfall, especially in the Catskills and Poconos.
